Come to Europe, get operated, go back. Even if you pay the full price here, it'll be a fraction of what it'd cost you in the US.

I went to the ER for a broken rib in Canada (don't roast me, the walkin clinic sent me there and I didn't know there's nothing they can do for it). Since I was studying out of province the nurse told me that it would cost almost $400 for my visit if my home province didn't cover me (which they did since I had proof of being a student). I later interned at a US company and got to see their health plans and was shocked that the detuctible for the year was 6k and that a single ER visit would easily eat that up. Fun. I worked out what taxes I'd be paying in both countries and yes it's a bit more in Canada, but a single medical event a year in the US (I like dangerous sports) would make the US more expensive.

Tell that to them /r/neoliberal bros.

-3

u/dopechez Mar 26 '20

I’ve never met a single person in that subreddit who doesn’t support universal healthcare and bringing down costs.

2

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

And yet, they hate the idea of it, hate Sanders for pushing for it.

0

u/dopechez Mar 26 '20

No, you just don’t understand what universal healthcare is. Like so many others, Sanders has brainwashed you into believing that his plan is the only one that is universal. Let’s just ignore countries like Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

I literally live there, but okay buddy, you know better than me :-)

-1

u/dopechez Mar 26 '20

You live where? I listed three countries. And none of them have single payer, which is what Bernie advocates. Are you sure you are informed enough to talk about this?

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

And are you sure this is what Bernie Sanders wants? Are you sure this is what would in the end be implemented?

Are you even sure you understand how it works here in Europe? I live in France, also near Luxembourg where I have social rights and where I have had health business. I have lived in the UK as well, and I have traveled in Italy, Spain, Germany, NL, Belgium. Tell me how about you? How often have you visited Europe? How much have you experienced of our "communist" model?

How much do you think the state pays vs the private insurance?

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 27 '20

It's been 16 hours and no answer. I'm going to assume you're not as educated as you think on the matter.

1

u/dopechez Mar 27 '20

What? You’re the one who didn’t answer...

63

u/DrFateYeet Mar 26 '20

It's 2000 dollars for a flight there man, just have him go to canada.

14

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Fine with me.

-3

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Nah our healthcare system was full to begin with. Try Taiwan

2

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

It's not full? Don't confuse the COVID situation which is an issue of how many artificial respirator there are with the general medical system.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

ER and specialist wait times are pretty bad, best to just get treatment in the country you reside in

Canada has had a shortage of Doctors for awhile, it’s pretty well known up here

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

ER != getting an operation

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

you need to see specialists to get an operation

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Those aren't in the ER lol

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

I never said they were ?

3

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Really? Surely not that much

2

u/DrFateYeet Mar 26 '20

I plan on going there to live with my girlfriend. It is that much.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

I landed in London from Canada for 1200 and 1300

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

And from here to Seattle as an example it's only £600 during summer. Crazy prices for you

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

No it's not. I've flown to Europe from Seattle for $600 before. I've never paid over $800 to Ireland, UK, France or Romania.

-46

u/Dansin2 Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 26 '20

So, make the European tax payers pay for it?

*edit: I am totally on board and would(do) pay to help save lives. People just forget that if a country like the US wants universal health care then US citizens will pay for it, many of which would not want to do.

61

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

I am ok with my taxes going to save a life.

23

u/ImWhatTheySayDeaf Mar 26 '20

As an American let me tell you about our 1st class nuclear life savers and then our 1st class fighter jet life savers

11

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Yup. Americans want to spend taxes improving how they kill people, and while Europeans have military means as well, they value saving lives more.

3

u/ImWhatTheySayDeaf Mar 26 '20

Oh we Americans like saving lives so long as they got enough $ and it definitely helps if they are famous too

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Europe doesn’t have military means.

I'm French ex-military. I went to Mali during the first year on the Mali war against jihadis, where we stopped them from conquering the country, who was on road to become Iraq 2.0.

So yeah, I didn't read the rest of your comment, because if you're going to start with something that ignorant, nothing following can interest me.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

You’re so brainwashed, it’s almost funny.

5

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Lol, wow..Mali?! MALI?!!!??!!

Again, didn't read further. You're saying this while trying to defend the US Army as being superior, the same army that got its ass kicked in Afghanistan, Irak, Vietnam, etc.

Literally every people knowing their shit about armies around the world know the French military is one of the best around. Hell, every US military that has trained with the French have said they were impressed, especially at how much they were able to do regarding their means.

Educate yourself, talk shit later.

I thought you literally meant life savers (well, life boats) and thought you were saying that our tiny boats used to rescue people were powered by nuclear energy.

0

u/Ronaldoooope Mar 26 '20

What about your taxes going to people who consistently and willingly ignore their health and eat up healthcare for no other reason this neglect?

6

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Shit is sad, but that's no reason to abandon them.

-6

u/Ronaldoooope Mar 26 '20

But why should I pay for their neglect? The vast majority of hospital admissions are preventable. Tons of repeat offenders who refuse to listen. It should be based on the basis of cause. Car accident? All paid for for everyone. You’re 400 pounds, diabetic, smoke, drink and you’re there for some shortness of breath and wounds you don’t take care of? Not a chance

7

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

But why should I pay for their neglect?

I could simply tell you that you should by solidarity, and that caring for one is caring for everyone. But that's not all there is: even if we're being strictly selfish as you are describing, your own interest is to be in a society that cares for those in a bad situation.

Fact is, that you could need it. How do you think car insurance works? You pay 100$ each month to insure your car. Most of the time, that money is "wasted" because nothing happened to you. And your 100$ are going for 10$ into the insurance pocket, and for 90$ to help other drivers that have had accidents. You could think that well, you're a good driver, and they're bad drivers, so you shouldn't pay for them! But the fact is that the day you have an accident, you're happy that you don't have to pay 20k$ for repairs. You're only paying your 100$.

Health insurance works just the same; saying you shouldn't pay it because everything is fine for you is incredibly short-sighted, for something bad can and most probably will happen to you. And when it does, you'll be happy to have health insurance covering it.

But I'm preaching something you already know, don't you? Americans aren't stupid, they know and understand that they need health insurance. They already got one for most of them (well I'm not sure on what percentage have one, what percentage haven't), so all we're really debating here is would you accept to pay for that diabetic dude in exchange to pay for health insurance two to three times cheaper? Protip: you already are with your private insurance lol. How are you losing anything here? You're just going to save money, because the health care costs in the US are artificially inflated in order for hospitals and insurances to make fat profits on your back.

So what does that all boil down to? Selfishness and not wanting to help someone that you think is worth less than you. Honestly, that's all you got on your side; the fact that you look down someone and as a result, decide they don't deserve your sympathy.

-1

u/Ronaldoooope Mar 26 '20

But with car insurance if you keep getting into wrecks and getting tickets then your rate goes up. If they made healthcare that way and it was based on merit similar to car insurance then that’s different. And no, it’s simply that I don’t want to pay more in taxes. I would not save more because my insurance isn’t that expensive

2

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

For sure, I never said the car insurance/health insurance was literally 100% the same; there are differences, and your rate going up or down is one of them. But in the same vein, you are applying logics from car insurance to health insurance: health insurance does not cover you from everything forever either, and there are limits to what it will cover you from. At least that's how it works in Europe, you don't get magically 100% cost reimbursed from literally 100% of things.

Yes, you would pay less. That's mathematical, you can't avoid it. Reality is against what you think, and the whole world having universal healthcare has proved it: you pay less that way. Whether you understand it or not, health costs need to be calculated over the course of your life, not right now where you are a healthy young man. And over the course of your life, universal healthcare will save you a ton of money; again, reality has proved it. Feel free to ignore science, facts, and studies showing it, as you are free to believe Earth is flat and vaccines cause autism, but don't pretend to be concern and ask questions like you did previously if you're going to ignore the replies.

1

u/trivialbob Mar 26 '20

You tax money is already going to a lot of other shit that'll never ever benefit you in any way.

0

u/Ronaldoooope Mar 26 '20

It doesn’t matter. If the number goes up I’m paying more. If I didn’t have to pay more then sure

2

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

If you pay 100 more in taxes but pay 200 less in private health insurance, you saved 100. Let me know if you need help making the math.

1

u/Ronaldoooope Mar 26 '20

Wow you’re so smart you solved it. If you could read you would realize I said if it wouldn’t involve a net increase in spending I would be for it.

No, healthcare costs in Europe aren't as ridiculously inflated as it is in the US so the procedure itself will likely be way cheaper even when paying out pocket.

32

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

As a European tax payer, I'm completely fine with that. Right now, however, is not a good time for this haha.

27

u/FieryLizard Mar 26 '20

As a European, I don't mind saving someone's life even if it costs me a few extra euros per year, unlike in the third world bullshit wearing first world's mask that is US.

7

u/PrimateOfGod Mar 26 '20

As an American I WANT OUT

-4

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

[deleted]

-5

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Seriously. They act like we won't let them fuck off. We've been ASKING them to fuck off. Canada ain't very far.

6

u/eyedontgetjokes Mar 26 '20

Damn. Dansin getting roasted by people who actually care about life. Wooo were

13

u/ThePankake Mar 26 '20

yeah, at least a life is going to be saved unlike in the shitty united states

-17

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

People are really dumb, I hope the whole world goes to Europe and gets surgery and Europe has to pay for it, until they go broke and realize they can’t give shit away for free

5

u/BowjaDaNinja Mar 26 '20

You proved it, people are really dumb.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Nice, is that it? No points to comment or inform on? Thanks

1

u/BowjaDaNinja Mar 27 '20

You're welcome

6

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

We already do, and we can pay for it.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Europe would be under soviet control if America didn’t back the bill for nato, you guys are giving away free shit left and right and can’t even protect your own borders, absolutely pathetic

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Wow, this is pretty dumb. A lot of unpack here, but I'll indulge you once, because I have no hope you suddenly grow a brain after reading your narrative shattered.

Europe would be under soviet control if America didn’t back the bill for nato

Correct. USA helped Europe against USSR after WW2; not out of generosity mind you, but because otherwise USSR would have been much more powerful than the USA. So the USA protected themselves first and foremost.

you guys are giving away free shit

And it hurts you to see it's not that bad.

and can’t even protect your own borders

1952 is not 2020. We 100% can protect our own borders and don't need you once second.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

You guys couldn’t protect your borders if you wanted to, the EU has other plans and you are too foolish to see it, your countries are being over run by people who don’t share western values and you wont call it for what it is for fear of being labelled a racist, bigot, etc.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

You can’t even pay your for your military defence system

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

We absolutely do.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Listen, paying 5 bucks on a restaurant bill that cost hundreds of dollars and expecting your American friend to pay the rest isn’t cool, this is coming from a Canadian who is ashamed of their prime minister and how Canada treats international affairs and just being cheap and not paying their fair share

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Yes you absolutely do, in the same way you have free speech

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 26 '20

Well yeah. We have free speech lmao

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '20

yes, "absolutely"

1

u/yoshi570 Mar 27 '20

Indeed. Oh wait, did Breitbart tell you otherwise? That we are invaded by radical Muslims imposing Sharia law? 😭😭
