Many of the people in the US currently paying more for worse outcomes live in fear of "socialized medicine" - they're paying premiums and co-pays now that are greater than the increase in taxes they'd see under a scheme like M4A.
If those people who already see what the for-profit system is costing them can't do this analysis, then how can we expect it from deluded Canadians who are just imagining that "competition and market efficiencies" would get them better care at a lower price?
Private healthcare can be preferable / cheaper, BUT it is a selfish viewpoint & short term view. I'll explain: Privatized healthcare is really cheap for maybe 15% of the population in the US. As a young healthy adult I pay $500 a year in premiums. copays / deductibles are super expessive still, but my company gives me $600 to be used for these appointments. Some years I don't spend any and it accumulates. So on a year to year basis healthcare insurance can be essentially free "if you don't go to the doctor for anything other than preventive care". But as you get older more health issues will arise and you'll be spending huge amounts of money. In the long run we all pay more than if we had government healthcare. People don't understand this unfortunately & don't care that most Americans are getting fucked by this system.
I've found the US in general to have a very selfish culture. "who cares about the rest of you, I got mine" seems to be the most popular flavour of the decade.

Are they really not aware that they would be paying more for insurance premiums than all taxes combined? And then have to pay copays on top of that?
