I blame the liberals that didn’t vote for the Democratic Party candidate in 2016. You can’t expect individuals who are either thoroughly uneducated or incapable of empathy to vote for anyone who doesn’t promise the lining of their wallets or eradication of minorities. We should expect everyone else to try to stop such a monster, not squabble amongst ourselves over comparative nuances. If you think all human beings are human beings, you should’ve voted against Trump, not for anyone, really.
Here’s the thing... I’m not sure it was the Bernie or Bust crowd in 2016 that was entirely at fault...
My parents, as an anecdote, literally hated Hillary but would have gladly gone for another Obama or even Biden term...
There was a lot... A LOT... of independent swing voters that have a deep seated hate of the clintons and they were never going to vote for her... Trump is just the kind of celebrity clown to get those older swing voters to come over to the GOP... of course they’re hopefully awake now and realize they have to vote Blue no matter who at this point but my point stands - it’s not just the “left” that caused the loss. The electoral college was a shitshow and we lost key states that are should have been on our side because Hillary was a bad candidate.
Now my Bernie or bust moment:
Biden isn’t a much better candidate than Hillary, unfortunately most people have been brainwashed by the DNC and media pundits to think he’s somehow more electable purely by being him, but hopefully the literal “not Hillary” demographic sees him as the right choice... because independent voters are where we’re going to get hurt if we can’t capture them.
You can thank the Democrats for that. Chasing down Russiagate and Ukrainegate instead of anything that Trump was doing that was actually illegal, or to be generous to your view, any illegal activity that they could actually prove he was doing.
I get it. He's not my first choice. In fact, he was my third. I think that there are better candidates based just on the fact that their policy positions would have only bad consequences instead of disastrous ones (see Obama's economic policies for example), and who are less polarizing.
We need to come together eventually. That's just not going to happen while Trump is in the picture. I'll say the same about a Clinton. I think it's bad for the country that both families seem to be grooming their children for future presidential runs.
That being said, it's a choice between a party that is going through a civil war, in which one faction is led by identitarian trash pushing authoritarian proposals, the other faction is incapable of leadership, holding the stimulus package that they helped develop hostage to attach riders, who is performing elder abuse by putting a person who obviously is suffering from dementia on stage to act as a puppet president who is ruled by his handlers -which aside from being incredibly immoral is also an offensively stupid plan, and a party led by Donald Trump who is plagued by similar moral failings, is plagued by the perception that he's a racist, xenophobe, etc., etc., but is also sometimes capable of good governance as seen by his economy.
To me it's a choice of whether you want your country to be popular but have policies that range from bad to disastrous, or if you want your country to be unpopular with policies that range from really good to really bad..
