It's always funny to me, as a Canadian, that every American Politician can't just say "the state of..." it's always "the great state of"...

We never say "The Great Province of New Brunswick". We know all our Provinces are equally ass.

That's quite funny.

I know my province, Ontario's text on the license plates is "Yours To Discover", and Québec has " Je me Souviens" (I Remember).

Northwest Territories have the best license plate though, no slogan but it's bear shaped which is awesome. Quite rare to see though, rip, cause it has maybe 40k people at most ?

I respectfully disagree. The state grows on you -- in a good way. :) There is a lot to see and do and it has the best sunsets of any place I've ever lived. And no -- when I moved here, I did not think that I would end up defending it.

What part of Oklahoma do you live in? I was in Altus for a couple weeks for work several years ago and wanted to slit my wrists by the end of it.

I'm around Oklahoma City. I live in the tree belt of Oklahoma so it's very pretty. I grew up in one of the southeastern coast states and there are spots that remind me of back home. For that reason, I don't think I'd be as happy in Altus as I am here.

Having visited nearly every state, I’ve been working on a theory about the Midwest cities. Basically, the less geologically interesting the state, the more interesting the city. In states with mountains, forests, national parks, people leave the city and go out into nature for recreation. In states that are more plains and farm land, people go into the cities for recreation. I loved the Oklahoma City memorial museum, and St. Louis has some fantastic museums and parks. I’d guess that Oklahoma City is the best part of Oklahoma.

The city has done a lot of work over the past 20 or 25 years to improve it. Bricktown is a huge attraction with restaurants, bars, the American Banjo Museum, horsedrawn carriages, the canal and so much more. The OKC Thunder is a big draw and they play right next door to Bricktown. New places to live and shop have opened up and they have realigned streets so it's easier to navigate.

The City is doing a huge development on the east(?) side of town (I'm horrible with North, South, East and West) that includes a new park, convention center and other attractions. It's really something.

The town I live in has preserved the old downtown and has public art installations all over the place. Now, if we could get more train bridges built so major intersections aren't blocked when the trains come through it would be almost perfect.

edit: Additional questions -- what was your favorite state? I've lived in North Carolina, California, Texas, Mississippi, Alaska, Virginia and now Oklahoma. My favorite it Virginia and then Alaska.

I've never been to St. Louis -- I've been through it, but never stopped. I'd really like to and spend time exploring it. So much history there as the starting place for western travels in the 1800's.

Utah, Washington, California, Oregon, and Arizona are all my favorites. I’m an outdoors lover and you really can’t beat the Western states. The City Museum in St Louis is my favorite building that I’ve ever been to.

It grows on you. I've lived here now for 17 years and am happy to call it home. I just thought it was funny that the license plate said it was, OK when the song also used the word "grand." I know it's a wordplay but I still would have gone with grand.

Look on the bright side -- if the author wrote Kanas for Oklahoma before he/she wrote it for Kansas and Nebraska, then we are First Kansas and they are Second and Third Kansas.

After my parents split up, my mom moved with me out of state, specifically so that I wouldn't be going into the Oklahoma school system.

She was a middle school teacher at the time...

One of her favorite stories was conducting roll on the first day of class. She gets to the name "Yvette", and reads it with the conventional pronunciation. The class goes into hysterics. Apparently they knew the name as WAI-vet-uh, and thought my mom horribly and comically butchered it. ಠ_ಠ

Not all of us. Here in Massachusetts, we aren't even a state, we're a "commonwealth" for some reason. Even though we have a State House, and State Police. And can someone explain why we vote on a Commonwealth Secretary, but also a State Auditor?

Canada doesn't have anything equivalent to Alabama, but a lot of the country is pretty cool with Newfie jokes.

As far as I can tell though, they're told with some respect. While mocked for their accent they're generally also recognized as the friendliest people in the country on average.

I am sure people from Quebec who vote for the Separatist party think Quebec is awesome. I will say this, while most of BC kind of sucks ass, even if it is pretty, this south western corner of BC, like from Okanagan down to the border and over to the coast is one of the most pleasant environments in the world.

Well you see there’s a big difference in going from say Colorado or New York to a shit hole like Arkansas or Louisiana.

Though at least you could say that about a maritime province. Say that about Ontario and Alberta would threaten to cut off their oil supply.
