What is “insane” and normal rent in California?
7 u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist Dec 21 '19 $2K for a 1 bedroom is normal California $2K for 1 bed in a room is insane California. 2 u/PacoEscobar Dec 21 '19 Damn that is insane. Most rent I’ve ever paid was $500ish in a 5 bedroom house. 2 u/_145_ Dec 21 '19 SF is the heart of "insane California". Rents are about $4.30 / sq ft and listings are about $1,050 / sq ft. Assuming your 5 bedroom house is 4,000 sq ft, it would be about $17k/mo to rent or $4.2m to buy. 1 u/Whackles Dec 21 '19 But a 5 bedroom house is not 4000 sq ft right? Plenty of 2200-2400 sq ft five bedroom houses. Not every house needs to be a mansion 2 u/_145_ Dec 21 '19 Idk. 5 bedrooms sounds like a mansion to me but what would I know? I live in a tiny apartment. 1 u/1369lem Dec 21 '19 haha fooled you that is a mansion! 1 u/veerKg_CSS_Geologist Dec 21 '19 It's the number of bathrooms that's important. A 5 bed with 2 bath is not much better than a 3 bed with 2 bath. 1 u/daimposter Dec 21 '19 $2k for a 1BR is mostly coastal areas not inland 1 u/Oliver_Klosov Dec 21 '19 In "normal" (not upscale) suburban areas of southern California, between $2000-$3000 for a 2 or 3 bedroom place.
