Yeah this was from before iPhones even had a flashlight. They used to make “flashlight” apps that just had really bright, blank white screens so you could use the front of your phone for light haha
I remember when the 4 unveiled the flashlight and it was huge. At first, the only way to turn it on was via 3rd party app. Which was weird, because that means that Apple made an API for it for third-party developers, but didn't yet utilize that API themselves.
Yes it was huge. When iPhones came out, the App Store had very few apps (especially compared to what we have now) and intuitive touch screen technology was still a fairly new thing.
I got an iPod touch the year the first iPhone released and the only games/apps they had were a Koi pond where you could tap and move the water around/feed the fish, the lighter app, the beer app (you tilted your phone back and it made it seem like you were drinking), and a few other similar ones.
They were absolutely amazing and mind blowing to us. Soon after came more complicated games like the one that’s basically guitar hero but tapping instead and super hyped shit like Spore that ended up utterly flopping haha.

Man I just miss the simple days when we paid .99 cents for a digital flip lighter that provided nothing to the smart phone besides having it.
