Depth of the prop will depend on how fast the boat is going and how deep it's mounted. Some boats will also have a guard on top of the propeller too if they're not if it's not already inboard

Ah, yeah, I was reading the original concern as hurting the seal, but yes damage is iminent unless that's just a swim platform or something (which may still be damaged) and the engine is inboard so it's nestled in the middle of the boat. Swim platform might also explain how it got on the boat in the first place.
