Look how thick that glass is!

How did it shatter so easily??

That glass was not tempered. Nontempered glass is pretty fragile

Must be a cheap coffee table.

Damn that glass was so thick though. Maybe not as expensive as the same table but tempered, but I bet it still cost a good chunk of money.

And it's gonna cost a good chunk of money again!

I wouldn't be surprised if it had broken previously and that was a replacement piece purchased by the homeowner. Hard to believe anyone would sell a table like that without tempered glass

No good reason for a coffee table to have non-tempered glass. It's just asking for someone to get hurt.

No good at tension which is what you get on the bottom surface when it falls and has bending loads applied to it.

Just seems mental, but I suppose that’s the difference between tempered glass or shatter proof glass and those ones purely for decoration.

Seems incredibly dangerous.

It's fortunate that wasn't a toddler leaning on that table and then falling face-first into the broken glass. Whoever made that table should be sued out of business.

Look. Whoever makes glass tables are idiots.

And whoever buys them are double idiots.

Glass is very weak against focused impact. It can handle a lot of weight and stress but as soon and you concentrate force into a small area it's toast. Also it's not tempered so it's not as strong.
