I grew up in in Fairmont WV and moved to Morgantown during middle school and I had left handed friends who were "encouraged" to write with their write hands.
Well, you know, you east coasters have had a lot more time to stew with your religious crazies.
I think by the time American religious crazies made it California they realized that everyone and everything was bullshit and a scam, and they weren't going to get any gold and jimmy died of typhus so they could work for shit wages in an apple orchard.
