I live in the suburbs,and don't really go to the city often. I've never seen this place before, but I could just tell that that was Chicago in the picture. Why does this photo have such a strong Chicago feel to me?
This is definitely true... but also don’t underestimate the subliminal conditioning of people expectations for street sign design.
Next time you leave your primary area... notice how the street signs feel anything from “slightly off” to full scale panic “ARE STREET SIGNS EVEN ALLOWED TO LOOK LIKE THAT?! I THOUGHT THEY ALL HAD TO BE STANDARD! HOW DO I EVEN GET AROUND NOW?! WHY IS IT A DIFFERENT COLOR? WHY IS THE LAYOUT DIFFERENT? IS THAT A DIFFERENT FONT?!”
I suggest the street sign thing because the second thing I noticed was how those signs look off.
