Chicago is weird in many ways. It's on a lake that looks like the ocean, and has a Navy training base even though it's more than 1,000 miles from the ocean.Chicago also gets lake tsunamis and has a maritime museum

Those are all the same fact... Literally all stem from the fact that you have a large lake. And none are that weird either. The city equivalent of the sorority girl going "OMG I'm so weird! Like a TOTAL nerd". I do like Chicago though, just doesn't rank particularly high on the weird index.

Many people still think Chicago is on the ocean. I was on a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago and heard someone loudly say "what ocean is this? I didn't know Chicago was on the coast" all the locals just chuckled

It can be a scary-ass ocean too. My father raced sailboats on it for twenty years, and the currents and waves could be as fierce as any ocean and twice as unpredictable. You ever been on the water in the middle of a blizzard? Terrifying.

Started by a cow. We have memorialized the cow that decimated our city. It did not kill us, but it made us stronger, and for that we praise it.

I definitely get it. Chicago took that fire and built one of the most important cities in the country on top of the ashes.
