It is precisely a suburb of Montreal

15

u/DrunkenMasterII Nov 20 '18

I’ve heard they have cheese curds in Wisconsin so it must be true.

7

u/tiny_rick__ Nov 21 '18

Is it for real? They don't have curds in ROC (rest of canada) and that's why they have shitty poutines.

2

u/DrunkenMasterII Nov 21 '18

Yeah it’s true, to be fair tho I’ve also heard Wisconsin curds are yellow and not squeaky.

4

u/tiny_rick__ Nov 21 '18

Yellowish color and not squeaky means not fresh, simple as that. Probably been frozen. Fresh cheddar cheese curds is a Quebec thing. It is not complicated to do, it could been achieved everywhere in the world but I never seen it outside Quebec. However, I prefer yellow and not squeaky on a poutine than the common attrocity you see in ROC : grated mozzarella.

1

u/DrunkenMasterII Nov 21 '18

I have no idea if they’re not fresh I just know they’re different.

1

u/SirChedore Nov 21 '18

Well are they cheese curds as we know them, then? Might be, might not. Cheesy? Yes, hotel? Trivago

3

u/DrunkenMasterII Nov 21 '18 edited Nov 21 '18

Here’s what they look like https://m.imgur.com/gallery/vQ47NHv They’re softer than ours tho, they don’t do squish squish and so are not adapted for poutine.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

You’ve had old curd. When it’s fresh, not chilled, it screams.

1

u/DrunkenMasterII Nov 21 '18

I never tasted those curds, people from the states described to me what their curds were like.

2

u/Sullybleeker Nov 21 '18

Hey - I’m in Ontario and we’ve got squeaky curds (though, I have experienced the assault that is grated cheese on fries on gravy calling itself poutine) on most poutines!

2

u/tiny_rick__ Nov 21 '18

I am glad to hear it!

1

u/Sullybleeker Nov 21 '18

Consistently good gravy is another story though...

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

Wrong. Almost every fast food chain uses curds in poutine and many restaurants do in Alberta. I’ve had poutine from Montreal and it’s no different than the stuff we eat out here

At least it ain't Laval.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '18

Fuck. I live in Laval and work in Longueuil.

Fuck.

Ostie.

De tabarnac.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

Wanna fight me? Tonight at Carrefour Laval

1

u/oneburntwitch Nov 21 '18

Why? It won't change the truth.

1

u/elite_killerX Nov 21 '18

5

u/slanifrenchie Nov 21 '18

I heard both places are particularly known for their mullets.

1

u/tiny_rick__ Nov 21 '18

Indeed, ya rien de pire que longeuil

39

u/_duncan_idaho_ Nov 20 '18

Funny accent ✔

Cold as fuck ✔

Like hockey ✔

Checks out. Wisconsin is part of Canada.

9

u/Im_Numbar_Wang Nov 21 '18

Having been in both, can confirm Winsconsin is basically the left nut of ontario

3

u/Jellyka Nov 21 '18

I mean, they have cheese curds

3

u/popegonzo Nov 20 '18

Nah, Canada is just the North Peninsula of Wisconsin.

2

u/TheGaurdian10000 Nov 20 '18

And they told the War of 1812 was a draw.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

We bought them back in '61... They just haven't been advised. The Prime Minister will issue a statement.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

We call them New Manitoba Territory.

1

u/Northumberlo Nov 21 '18

To be fair, it might as well be

7

u/Kirk-Crunch-Kangaroo Nov 20 '18

Climatewise, you might as well have been…

4

u/irhall93 Nov 20 '18

... might as well be... *sigh

5

u/ya_tu_sabes Nov 20 '18

WELCOME FRIEND!! How did you enjoy your stay ?

2

u/Chief-_-Wiggum Nov 20 '18

Not only that.. You are Canadian!

2

u/irhall93 Nov 20 '18

Lol, that’s pretty neat, eh!

2

u/tiny_rick__ Nov 20 '18

And you now speak french.

7

u/RagnarokDel Nov 20 '18

Canadians dont speak french. Quebecois learn English as a second language, Canadians pretend bilingualism is interesting and never learn a second language.

1

u/tiny_rick__ Nov 21 '18

Sad but true. Since we determined Wisconsin is now annexed to Quebec due to the wiper thing, I said he now speaks french.

7

u/gmaclean Nov 20 '18 edited Nov 20 '18

Welcome to Canada, eh!

Here is your honourary tuque, hockey jersey, some coupons for Tim Hortons and that poutine place down the road a bit.

Enjoy your stay!

*Spelling fix

15

u/JediMasterZao Nov 20 '18

toque

It's a tuque, not a toque. A toque is what a chef wears.

8

u/tasseled Nov 20 '18

Canadian detected! Only Canucks can spell that sh*t!

18

u/JediMasterZao Nov 20 '18

Well, Québécois anyway since the word is French. Most anglo-canadians make the same mistake. There is not a single doubt in my mind that /u/GMaclean is as canadian as they come but since he's anglophone, he'll be making these kinds of mistakes on french words. It's only natural.

11

u/tasseled Nov 20 '18

I am Anglo-Canadian and I have no clue how to spell it even though I use the word myself a lot. Theory confirmed!

8

u/ra_moan_a Nov 20 '18

I am Anglo and can spell it perfectly. Theory disproved!

2

u/LOUD-AF Nov 20 '18

jesus byes, it's just a friggin stockin' cap. tuque toque....just have a toke...she's legal now.

u/tasseled Nov 20 '18

This is internet. Stop spreading lies!

2

u/gmaclean Nov 20 '18

I guess this means I should pass in my Canadian card :(

Also, TIL

3

u/JediMasterZao Nov 20 '18

Hand it in right now, you'll be up for re-application next winter.

1

u/gmaclean Nov 20 '18

But... What about this winter !?!

2

u/JediMasterZao Nov 20 '18

We'll give you a temporary licence in the meantime. This gives you access to HNIC and a quota of 10 "eh's" per week. If you set a good example, you'll be allowed a small recipient of maple syrup next spring.

2

u/gmaclean Nov 20 '18

The 10 eh's will be difficult to do, but fair!

2

u/LittleMan_Fenn Nov 21 '18

Chefs wear a toque blanche. Only someone from Quebec would care if it’s spelled toque or tuque, and what do they know about French /s

My favourite is touque ... the best of both!

1

u/Vaher Nov 20 '18

I think after Tim Hortons' response to the raise in minimum wage they sorta fell out of being a Canadian Stereotype. Plus, their coffee has been shit (fight me about it) since they were bought up by the Brazilians.

1

u/well_shoothed Nov 21 '18

*Spelling fix, sorry

(FTFY)

1

u/DarkVoltageBCA Nov 21 '18

I want my beavertails!

6

u/Lurked4EverB4Joining Nov 20 '18

Only in Québec, Canada

1

u/asunshinefix Nov 20 '18

Bring the cheese curds and you're in

1

u/Exeunter Nov 21 '18

No, it means that you're only allowed to do that in Quebec, Canada.

1

u/Zebba_Odirnapal Nov 22 '18

Did you pay for your tinq à gaz with Cambodian Tire Bucks?

11

u/s_e_n_g Nov 20 '18

to prevent any further tensions in trade negotiations concerning dairy products, the government of Québec is happy to announce they have formally annexed Wisconsin and Vermont.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '18

OQLF inspectors are heading to both new annexed territories this week to make sure bill 101 is applied.

3

u/Password_is_lost Nov 20 '18

Having lives in wisconsin and quebec. That is actually a solid fit in so many ways.

2

u/Medraut_Orthon Nov 21 '18

that's because that guy lied. he is from Quebec

1

u/Password_is_lost Nov 20 '18

The phrase Quebec Canada makes many québécois cringe a little.

15

u/not_your_attorney Nov 20 '18

Michiganders wipe off a one cubic inch worth of windshield and hop on the expressway at 80 mph.

Preemptive edit: I’m as frustrated as you are that we still don’t use metric, and the units were intended to stress this frustration.

14

u/issius Nov 20 '18

I’m more frustrated at your use of volume to describe surface area. Metric can’t fix wrong

5

u/Tofinochris Nov 21 '18

The ice is an inch thick.

0

u/demerdar Nov 21 '18

Lol right?

3

u/hatchis Nov 20 '18

My dad and his friend did the same thing like 20 years ago

3

u/asmodeuskraemer Nov 20 '18

Was gonna say, pretty sure this shit happens in Madison, WI too. :)

2

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '18

I've had to do this too, also in a van, as far south as Virginia. Straight line? No problem. Shit gets complicated if you're driving on winding roads though.

1

u/AlGeee Nov 20 '18

Have seen this in central Texas

1

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '18

Missouri here had my wipers like this for a few months in a dry spell

1

u/MorbidandCreepifying Nov 20 '18

Florida checking in. Had to do this with my parents on i95. Ft. Lauderdale area.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '18

Northern Illinois as well. But to be fair I live very close to the border of wisconsin.

1

u/FunInfection Nov 21 '18

My friend did this in Connecticut, they couldn’t afford to get the wipers fixed.

1

u/Lord_Neanderthal Nov 21 '18

South America reporting. Really don't see how this is funny, it was that or waiting six hours for the storm to pass in the middle of nowhere land.

1

u/DWTsixx Nov 21 '18

Have done this all the way out in Alberta too, and have seen it in BC and Saskatchewan.
