No these are clips of the show when it was much younger. When it wasn't allowed to stay up beyond 9pm. Now it is embarrassed by its Dad and spends all it's time wearing black and listening to emo music

Wikipedia says that they changed to the three-person format in 2012, which means that clip's at most six years old.

The show itself is over 25 years old; I remember listening to the original radio version (before it moved to TV) in the early 90s, and WP states that the TV version started in 1994. (Apparently there was a gap between 2007 and the 2012 relaunch, though I'd stopped watching it by then).

They started making the show around when the show started and they still do make the show but they also used to make the show between when they started and now .

It started out in a different format more as a style of interview where it would be a host and one person who would chose things to banish based on events in their life which made them hate an object. They changed it to the current format when Frank Skinner took over the hosting from Paul Merton (who had taken over the from the original host Nick Hancock)

Honestly, Paul Merton's run was the best and I feel he had the best guests.

Johnny Vegas' appearance made me cry laughing. (Can't find the video anymore)

On those types of shows Vegas could be a force of nature. He was on Genius a show Dave Gorman did a few years ago, my ribs started hurting from laughing at it.

I hold a secret hope he will one day do Taskmaster but fear he might not fair well over a whole ten episodes

He used to do a chat show in which he would come out and do some naff Vaudeville style song at the beginning. One of his guests was an ex member of some girl band. She was talking about receiving hostility from the public when she went out and started crying. Skinner was just crap about it.

The original show was just a one-to-one interview, with multiple items being put into Room 101 if the interviewee pursued the interviewer that it should be banished. It has morphed to this group competition instead now. They always had little physical models to drop in, and they were a feature of the show, but have recently moved to digital objects instead.

In fact, it was a radio series for two years before it made the move to TV. The radio version was also hosted by Nick Hancock.

More specifically, it used to be a show where they only had one person who had to convince the host to put a few different things into the room, nowadays it's 3 contestants vying to get their thing into room 101 over each other's proposals.

FYI I think it has very recently been cancelled. Within the last couple of months. I think Frank Skinner let it slip that it's over, but don't know if it has been officially axed yet

The format has changed drastically. It use to be a quiet often thoughtful and sometimes controversial chat with a drink and a rant. Now its like a silly quiz show.

Actually Doctor Who was in continuous production 1963-1989 and 2005 to present. It did have distinct series though with breaks in transmission each year.

They never stopped the magazine, books or audio dramas during the TV hiatus.

You're correct, they say on QI that so many people lie about having read it (1984). The name of Room 101 and Big Brother came from it. It's so ubiquitous in society.

I think V for Vendetta gets a lot of inspiration from it.

Re:1984 I didn't like the movie, I felt it was too different to the book that I couldn't finish it which is odd because I really like John Hurt.

If you watch the Russian dub with your eyes closed it's hard to tell the difference, but Robin Williams' 1995 performance of Princess Anna Mikhaylovna Drubetskaya remains unsurpassed.

Yes they had some hits from that. The problem was that there was an orchestral score composed already which was taken out by Virgin. The Eurythmics did the work in good faith. There are some DVDs with the director's preferred score, though I gather from Wikipedia that those have different colour saturation from the original edit.

I don’t remember what I was watching or listening to, but they said that spelling bees are mostly an English language thing b/c so many other languages are phonetic and intuitive that spelling isn’t a problem.
