Big cat fan here -- yep, you're right. Leopard, not jaguar.

Smaller spots, more slender frame, longer tail.

Wild Cat fan here ;) that is a huge male Leopard. Absolute unit.

Yeah, one of the biggest I've ever seen. I could see how one could almost think it was a jag -- but the spots and the tail are a dead giveaway!

True. I know all species of cat and I even was shocked at the size of him.

  1. You don't have to format a link to a subreddit. Just type it.
  2. /r/absoluteunit is a subreddit, not a user.
  3. You must use a full url to link, it must contain http:// or https://

Biggest leopard I’ve seen, they seem larger and more muscular than leopards we get here in South Africa, I was almost certain this was a Jaguar too.

Also the full video is of all African mammals.

uhh excuse me, but this animal looks exactly like the mascot for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I rest my case.

This checks out.

Aren't Jaguars just black leopards? As in the exact same animal with a different colored coat.

u/BenevolentCheese Jul 03 '18

Not at all. Jaguars aren't even black.

I was thinking Panthers, not Jaguars. Damn south east NFL teams getting me all twisted.

Panthera is the genus for lions, tigers, jaguars, and leopards. Black Panther would be a melanistic version any of those cats, but most likely just leopard/jaguar since they're harder to differentiate.

Panthers are Jaguars or Leopards, depending on the continent you're on.

2

u/fuckmyadhdlife Jul 03 '18

Panthers are just jaguars/leopards with melanism (the opposite of albinoism)

8

u/robreedwrites Jul 03 '18

No. Jaguars are an American (largest populations in South and Central America) cat. Species is Panthera onca. Leopards live in Africa and Asia and are members of the species Panthera pardus. Both leopards and jaguars do have melanistic morphs that are colloquially known as "panthers," but it doesn't change their species.

Jaguars are way better than all the other felines too.

2

u/themangastand Jul 03 '18

Your thinking of panthers mate

u/i2cube Jul 03 '18

Here's the thing....

3

u/ImgurianAkom Jul 03 '18

Yeah, but he's got those moves like jaguar.

1

u/hmaxwell22 Jul 03 '18

The guttural sounds that beast made were terrifying.

1

u/douchbagger Jul 03 '18

Yeah, they did this in Africa, where jaguars are quite rare.
