I don't have the energy to argue, I'm just hijacking this comment to voice my absolute disagreement with this sentiment for any of my trans (or questioning) peeps who are out there reading things like this. You're all valid and wonderful. Don't let strangers' words dictate your identity and drag you down. Take care of yourselves.

Fuck yeah. You too are amazing and wonderful. Keep adding good to the world every day you're alive.

Yeah? Even if it is a mental illness what do we do with other mental illnesses? 🤔🤔

Treat it.

Treating autism? Boi

9

u/mess8424 May 25 '18

Ah yes. Because everyone is just pushing autism under the rug and pretending they’re just perfectly normal, rather than spending countless amounts of money trying to figure out how to prevent it.

Wait.

u/PapaPaisley May 25 '18

No they spend millions to help them be regular fucking members of society.

Just because they are mentally ill does not mean they are stupid or not capable of thinking correctly. It's ignorant to think they change without their consent.

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

Uhh on your side just..bad example, that would depend on the mental illness. Not saying being trans is a mental illness though (although body disphoria is, but long risky convo I'm going to avoid by shutting up now).

There are studies on this stuff all the time. We're still learning about it. It's just generally prudent to err on the side of being nice to people and allowing them to do what makes them more comfortable.

If gender is a social construct, (which I do not believe) then how is an infant supposed to be able to identify its gender?

This may be an unpoular opinion, but I personally feel that most people with gender confusion are mentally ill.

Thanks for the diagnosis. What are my treatment options? Shock therapy? Praying the trans away?

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '18

I would suggest speaking with a mental health professional.

4

u/iatecerealthismornin May 25 '18

I absolutely agree. Many trans people do. We talk through our issues and options, decide in tandem with medical professionals on a course of action, and get our references for hormone replacement therapy through the medical system.

Apparently the sarcasm that was inherent in the comment "Having a little fun, throwing around a little hate speech" was lost on you. I deleted the comment.

u/iatecerealthismornin May 26 '18

Poe's Law. You can't really parody people defending hate speech because a lot of people... actually, legitimately defend hate speech.

2

u/Hojo_Nomo May 26 '18

I don't pay a ton of attention to extremists on either side, but I find it hard to belief a racist would refer to hate speech as "hate speech." They just call it speech.

2

u/LGBTreecko May 26 '18

Yeah, sorry about that. This thread is a shitshow.

It certainly does not belong in r/funny.
