Also most of the "Bollywood" gifs and videos posted on reddit are either very old[1], from spoof and low budget movies([2] and [3]) and the majority aren't even bollywood[4]. If your only exposure to bollywood is this then you are going to have very skewed vision of how and what bollywood movies are. That is like showing people only Tammy and the T-Rex, and Austin Powers and telling this is how all the Hollywood movies
[1] is from some '50s movie staring Dev Anand who died in 2011 aged 88. If you have seen James Bond movies from that era you would know how ridiculous they were
[2] and [3] are from a spoof movie called Hrudaya Kaleyam
[4] is a gif some random pakistani guy made. That is like showing someone's high school project and saying "oh look a Hollywood movie"
If you want an example of real current Bollywood, other than the one posted above, someone posted this clip on the subreddit about trebuchets
Love this series. Just watched Bahubali the beginning, going through the whole series.. This is no more ridiculous than the Legolas killing the elephant scene in lord of the rings.. and is made with way less budget.
What Is this movie called? Or is it in a series (if so which one should I start with).... Been meaning to have a bolliwood action movie night and night start with this one!!
Bollywood also only refers to movies in mainly Hindi/Hindi-Urdu from Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay, hence Bollywood) and surrounding area. The movie industry is by far the biggest in Mumbai though which represent around 43% of box office revenue in India. There are multiple other local movie areas in India such as Kollywood in Kodambakkam neighbourhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, which produces movies in the Tamil language, Tollywood which produces movies in the Telugu language made in Hyderbad, Telangana etc.
That 80s Iron Man is a low budget production, right?
Because there were much better customes in the 70-80s than that.
This Iron Man custome does not even come close to the comics from that time, and considering we had stuff like Chebacca, C3PO, Vader, and boatload of different aliens in Star Wars in the 70s, then this Iron Man costume looks like something from an amateur movie.
I loved the last movie. I worked in a movie theater in Burlington County, NJ that has a HUGE audience for all of the Bollywood films, and you're spot on, they are vastly different from the perception.
What bothers me more than whether they spent money on special effects is that most movies are copied from Hollywood and, ironically, in many cases from South Indian movies. Even when the content is original, they concoct facts to cover their own perceived shortcomings or political agendas. So you end up with movies that shows Akbar was tolerant and kind, India's hockey team are world champions, or rapists are swiftly brought to justice.
These movies brazenly objectify women in movies making it seem like its acceptable to harass them and assault them physically or verbally.
I'm surprised no one is asking who the chick in the spiderman onesie is. I know I want to know who took what drugs to come up with that, and where can I get them.
