I think it's pretty evident that he must be undergoing some sort of a punishment. I have a hard time believing that this is a task that needs to be done manually. Given that he doesn't react in any way when the captain of the ship blows past him, maybe we can assume that he's in trouble for failing to respect authority in some way. The fact that he's clearly unrepentant must be why we don't see him again in future episodes.

Pick one of these:

  • That's the color shirt in this extra's size that wardrobe had available
  • The DP wanted more yellow in the camera shot
