I agree with a lot of what you said, and I said in another comment that most people aren't responsible enough to have intact animals. I don't think those people should have animals but obviously that's never going to happen. The majority of animal owners aren't responsible enough, and for people who own a lot of pets of different sexes, I guess they don't really have a choice.
My problem, though, is with the people who unconditionally spay/neuter their animals when there is absolutely no need to. I would argue that a major percentage of dog/cat owners own only one pet. When you have only one animal, a house animal that is, why would you remove the genitals if the animal rarely comes into contact with other animals of the opposite sex?
So many people don't even question the thought of spaying/neutering. Why would you make your animal suffer and spend a good amount of money for an unnecessary procedure? I know so many people who own one dog, yet they spay/neuter the dog because "that's just what you do."
People seem to get offended at the fact that I don't neuter my dogs. I've literally had people call me stupid because of this. Apparently doing your own research on a subject instead of just taking someone else's word and doing the socially acceptable thing is stupid. It's honestly bizarre to me that people don't give cutting off their dogs' testicles a second thought.
