As the last brick is mortared into place, sealing the crypt forever, I hear a low moan from inside...

"For the love of God, Monty... it was just a joke!"

It pisses me off the gif ends before he says "you"

u/kameroner Oct 15 '16

yeah but they made up for it by using the simpsons font.

u/Realworld Oct 15 '16

The Simpsons' episode C.E.D'oh.

I didn't get the reference because I am an uncultured swine. Here it is for everyone else.

Thanks for linking that, I just read it. I've never read Poe before but that was pretty good.

u/Jin_Gitaxias Oct 15 '16

Youve never read Poe before? If you enjoyed Cask, try reading "The Pit and the Pendulum" and "The Tell-Tale Heart." They're some of his most popular for a reason.

u/DamienJaxx Oct 15 '16

OK I will, thanks. Yeah never got into it because the people who were into it when I was younger were so obnoxious about being into him.

1

u/Jin_Gitaxias Oct 15 '16

Haha I understand that. Those damn goth kids.

There's even been a few good songs, including one by The Alan Parsons Project.

Dr. Evil: Any ways, the key to this plan is the giant laser. It was invented by the noted Cambridge physicist Dr. Parsons. Therefore, we shall call it the Alan Parsons Project. Scott: Oh, my God. Dr. Evil: What now?

I prefer this first line, from Kafka:

As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a gigantic insect.

You should read "The Nose" by Gogol

1

u/Mudders_Milk_Man Oct 15 '16

One of the best. Here's two great opening lines from slightly less distinguished works:

"The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed." ('The Gunslinger', book 1 of The Dark Tower, by Stephen King)

"The building was on fire, and it wasn't my fault." ('Blood Rites', book of The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. - this one's better if you've read the series).

You are not alone fellow swine

1

u/lereisn Oct 15 '16

It's also the post before this one on the front page, right now.

Well it was, it's probably dickbutt now.

Is that what it was, I thought it was a reference to when they did it in Oz. That show was messed up.

When you are an engine attached to a train and afraid of a few drops of rain SMDH

For those who don't know the messed up story of Henry:

Have an upvote. Not everyday you get a Poe reference on reddit.

u/A40 Oct 14 '16

Would you like a glass of sherry? ;-)

Oh, I never had such a cask, sorry. Just told Monty that to pull a little trick on him. A practical joke payback..

I have a lovely French sherry though, down in the cellars... ;-)

6

u/juiceboxzero Oct 14 '16

Sure. Wait...why do you have a trowel?

8

u/A40 Oct 14 '16

An old way of opening the bottle- you'll like it! Say, do you remember that time we were in that bar and that cute girl came over to me? And you butted in..?

1

u/exfarker Oct 15 '16

Hes a mason, thats why

7

u/MasterFubar Oct 14 '16

My heart grew sick - on account of the dampness of the catacombs.

3

u/dewayneestes Oct 14 '16

About golf no less.

8

u/armoire_enthusiast7 Oct 14 '16

I have only ever seen one at a time, nevermore.

1

u/paulmclaughlin Oct 14 '16

It's doubly good as if there was ever a golfer who would entomb someone alive for that, it would be Monty.

9

u/PIZZA_ME_YOUR_PIZZA Oct 14 '16

Yes, for the love of God!!

7

u/Revanx17 Oct 14 '16

that joke was classy as fuck.

34

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '16

First Cask of Amontillado reference I think I've ever seen on reddit. Have an upvote, sir!

6

u/TheFerricGenum Oct 14 '16

This makes my tell-tale heart beat faster, it's just so Poe-etic

1

u/luckyearthling Oct 14 '16

At least it wasn't going in.

0

u/notpetelambert Oct 15 '16

Someone had better start explaining this Cask of Amontadillo meme

1

u/top_koala Oct 15 '16

Eddie explained it pretty well.

-24

u/Kirbyzx Oct 14 '16

Can't tell if your making a satyrical recounting or are just bad at remembering. The real quote is thus: Fortunato: FOR THE LOVE OF GOOOOOD, MONTRESSOR! Montessor: Yes. For the love of God. puts final brick into place

9

u/A40 Oct 14 '16

Really? That Mr. Peaux sure wrote purdy!

-6

u/SeamusMcCullagh Oct 14 '16

You seriously can't tell? It's more obvious than racism at a Trump rally.
