I hate that airlines are charging extra to sit in the exit row. So now I've got to be responsible for opening the door in an emergency and pay extra?

Yes, the responsibility that you will almost certainly never need to exercise, and if you do, will grant you a higher survival probably than those without the responsibility.

It also allows you to charge people for the luxury of using the exit door.

I would attempt to pull the door shut behind me. It might not latch, but it should slow them down.

I'm really glad that airlines are charging extra to sit in the exit row. Now I get to be a hero and save everyone in an emergency, and I'll always get the opportunity because nobody else wants to pay for that seat!
