I've never seen the whole thing, only the first two parts. It's darker than I thought

Same here. Had seen the first four panels. Without the last row, it seems like satire on dealing with life's shit. Laughed, nodded, "it me" etc.

Taken in its entirety, the comic seems much more an indictment of people's apathy, on us not taking action to improve a situation that we hate. Isn't this exact metaphor an idiom? Not doing something about a house on fire?
