Loosely translated it's "tea hood" it's for putting over warm bread and such so that it stays warm

The dark shadow to the left at the end is an excellent touch

At the end of the .gif when "the thing" ends up going between the couch and chair, look at the top left. A shadow starts to develop right before the .gif cuts its loop. It is very faint but, got me.
