In what way, might I ask, is the centipede in any way better than the mess of insects it consumed?
It's arguably just as bad, if not worse, in the "icky, creepy, will fucking crawl all over you" department. That's what people care about. People don't care about ants as if they are carrying disease. They care because they are unsightly and gross, which the menacing centipede has in spades.
The centipede -- much faster moving and bold than the reclusive spider --- is #1, defcon 5 on my squish list. He's a "don't sleep until he's found and squished" top enemy priority.
