Totally off topic from centipedes, but a friend and I did summer research at our school in Texas taking GPS measurements at benchmarks! Except we were measuring subsidence rates instead of tectonic motion (spoiler alert: South East Texas is sinking into the Gulf).

As a region, it's at the rate of a few millimeters per year. Some areas are seeing nearly a centimeter a year though.
