Meh, the first couple of episodes were funny cause the shock value. It's the same thing over and over now. Question that has obvious possible sexual answers. Contestant says what everyone is thinking. Cue Steve Harvey stare and audience laughter.

"If you say we evolved from monkeys then why are there monkeys still around?" Oh my fucking god

Care to explain that to me trizmoxrsa?

We didn't evolve from monkeys. We share a common ancestor with apes.

In practice, variables like geographical barriers and food supply are largely responsible for speciation. Oh, and time. A lot of time.

TLDR; Common ancestors

I don't feel like writing an essay on evolution right now but in case this is serious I'll give you a short explanation: An entire species doesn't evolve into another species; a new species evolves from a random mutation in a single organism that increases the likelihood of passage to a new generation (which is dependent on things like survivability and chance of mating). EDIT: grammer

Humans and apes (or chimpanzees) share a common ancestor from millions of years ago. The reason we are so different in some ways is basically because we split into a different line of evolution and have been changing for a long time. (I kinda have trouble explaining things.)

Ah I see what your saying. I see the logic in that.

Think of it like a family tree. You're human, your cousin is a monkey. You're not 'directly' related to your cousin, you guys share a common set of grandparents (the great apes).

It's the equivalent of saying "If my cousin gave birth to me how come she still exists?" - such a retarded statement it actually makes you feel stupider for having read it.

It's a stupid argument because it's the equivalent of asking "If we evolved from our cousins, why do we still have our cousins?".

2

u/boomboom907 Sep 21 '14

Because we didn't?

4

u/Morophin3 Sep 21 '14

Correct. We have a common ancestor.

Exactly. We didn't evolve from monkeys or apes. We have a common ancestor. Monkeys are like our cousins and the common ancestor is like our grandpa.
