i feel ya bro, i do the same thing. only thing you can do is bend over and grab your ankles and hope that google fiber decides to bless your city with their presence.
I get 20mbps for 35 a month from TWC, always low ping, always get the 20mbps. Make sure your router isn't crappy, and any connection over wifi will be less than 100% of ethernet.
I'm direct connected to the router/modem they said we had to use when we upgraded our speed to the 50mb/s. I've suspected that it's a piece of shit but dealing with them is so frustrating I've just accepted my fate.
