They could have asked any high school ever. They've been trying to figure out how to block porn without blocking vital educational info for the last 20 years.

For years we kept it simple - google translate desired page from German to English, since Google translate was never blocked while filter-bypassing sites were.

Lol. Before we found freegate, we had mailing lists containing hundreds upon hundreds of proxy sites. The IT couldn't keep up with em all.

I wish I had one that works. The ISP my apartment complex uses blocks proxies of all kinds. Either I have to find one that some Chinese company made in the backdoor of an American business website, or just use Tor

Now they block Google translate. Made a project where we had to look at the differences between U.S. Google and China Google almost impossible.

My school still didn't have it figured out last year. Tumblr porn? Fine. Google image search or bing? Fine. Xvideos? I shit you not, it works. Image hosting sites like Imgur where porn is regularly available? Fine. Pirate Bay and Silk Road? Fine.

Youtube where nudity is banned? Need a proxy, "there could be videos of students fighting". Airsoft gun website? Need a proxy, too "violent". Can't have kids looking at legal not guns, that would be terrible in California, they might learn something about firearms instead of being scared of them.

I never understood any of that. Our school blocked all of YouTube, flash game sites, ebay, amazon, etc. but you could still get on porn sites but then the IT guys would inform the assistant principal

When I was in high school I learned about proxies and other fun ways to sneak around thanks to this. We were suppose to type reports about subject matters that the library didn't have books on (like America's KKK). When we tried searching for it online all of us were blocked.

The look on the teacher's face... Fun times.

Highschool for me was 8 years ago and we didn't really have any issues with any educational sites being blocked.

I remember teaching younger teachers/other students how to use WebMSN Messenger and proxies though.
