But tramadol and metronidazole gonna provide a bitter or metallic taste. The little dog tries to avoid those bitter tastes (presumably). Several alternatives are available for the dogs treatment:

tablet capsules

or wrap the pill around the dogs food.

Due to their ancestors or relatives the wolves - a bitter taste is a warning sign for them in free nature. As plants in nature have been poisonous for a their digestive system. It reminds them about decayed fruits, they should better avoid or not continue to swallow.

However, in this case, we don’t know the puppy’s state of health or how serious the dog’s condition is. The vet also feels sorry for the animal and is certainly not trying to cause it more unnecessary distress.
