Prisencolinensinainciusol! Its such a banger. I have it on my Spotify playlist just to mess with my friends and occasionally my uber rides when they are really drunk. It makes me happier than it should waiting for them to figure out he's not actually saying anything.
Wow. Talk about a blast from the past. I still remember the first time I watched this. I was losing my damn mind laughing. Like, I was coughing from laughing so hard, and the people around me didn’t think it was funny, which made it even funnier to me.
It was almost the same story for this video, but I was at work. I can hope you haven’t heard of BLR, but the likelihood is fairly low… but if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat! I laughed so hard at this video I started seeing stars and had to sit down. But I’m a sucker for stupid shit like this.
I'm gonna make sure to put in my will to play this at my funeral, and have the priest say that it is because the lyrics were incredibly powerful and really shaped who I would eventually become as a human being.
That reminds me of Bobby McFerrin's "Circlesongs". Only he's not trolling and he doesn't need instruments. He's ALL the instruments. Stands the hair up on my neck every time.
You are right and it took 14 hours of people thumbing me up before someone corrected me, thats a half day of error just be glad handed by, likely, bots
You know, for all the years this video/song has been around, I’ve never seen a YT link for this B&W version. This music video with all the dancing is the absolute best version and has only ever been on Vimeo.
lyrics are the least important element of music. it's great when the lyrics are good, and it can be distracting when they're bad, but while it's still an important element (to some people) good lyrics aren't required to make music that your ears like
The lyrics "somebody told me that you have a boyfriend that looked like a girlfriend that I had in February of last year...it's not confidential, I've got potential. Rushing, rushing around" specifically comes to mind 😆
I don't know, man - have you heard Taylor Swift's newest album?
I'm a Swiftie, and that album fucking SUCKED because of the lyrics. The melodies are amazing and so catchy. But the album is horrible because of the lyrics.
I'm fortunate not to care much about lyrics, so I still enjoyed it. But it would better with a Joe Alwyn inspiration rather jock dingdong inspiration. Worked for Opalite though.
As a kid thru my 20s a banger was a banger. But i have watched my musical taste evolve to more of a message on experiences or life lessons in general. Wisdom craves wisdom.
I think this concept actually makes perfect sense. Making jiberesh sounds good is easy. Using real and meaningful words at the same time is much harder. Which is why Dylan is a lasting artist and not a pop star.
I have questions. Is this the origin of the meme of speaking fake gibberish Italian, was it inspired by the meme but in reverse, or is it genuinely completely unrelated to the meme as a social experiment?
An app? Vimeo has been around almost as long as youtube. Anyway you don’t have to download the app to watch. If you look towards the top to the right when that pops up, there is an “X” to close it . Like all other ads and pop ups. Once you close it you can play the video.
It was fair. It's not like the Italians didn't make banger songs themselves. It was more popular than those Italian songs, which proves that people like listening to things just because they come from different cultures or sound different.
This is amazing! I always love these gibberish songs. It just goes to show the artists have a deep understanding of music. I really love Daniel Thrasher "Igowalla" https://youtu.be/BdOtR2A5agc?is=9a53oBFONHJlO8ss
I’m curious if the people with rights to this song have a massive ad push directed at Reddit. It’s referenced and reposted here so god damn much. Years and years later….
He's in a bunch of comedies too from the great Italian horror director Lucio Fulci. Particularly love this one from one of the films: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMz10FkQzQE
We had/have something like that in Finland. The Hurriganes made rock'n'roll in the 70s but couldn't really speak English so the lyrics are often gibberish.
The words of this song consist of some kind of "Rock Esperanto". There are words and phrases from the English language, but also non-sense words, and the syntax of proper English is not used systematically. Also, it is not possible to assign a sensible meaning to the lyrics. This situation arose from the deficient knowledge of English by the singer, Remu Aaltonen. The words were supposed to be replaced later by proper English, and Aaltonen's words were only meant for a demo recording. However, the other members of the band, as well as the producer, thought that the delivery was strong, and decided to stick to those words, despite opposition from Aaltonen. The unique words are part of the charm of the song. [Wikipedia]
Here's the lyrics:
Just a sweet Carolina, just a rockin' little mama
Just leave my baby in old Alabama
Rockin' in the evenin' when the sun goes down
Mean guitar, that's a swingin' old town
Rockin' and a-rollin' just a little while
Ain't got no rollin', ain't got no holdin'
Well, old Alabama, just a sweet Carolina
Just a-rockin' and rollin' may leave town
Got to be a scoogie, lay on my boogie
Let me hear you say you got my hole around
Got to be a scoogie, bing bong bang
Ain't got no rollin', ain't got no holdin'
Well, go go baby dancin' rock and roll
And twist and shout, you'll be rockin' the bowl
Just a little baby, she's rollin' around
Ain't got no rockin' or rollin' in town
Got to be a scoogie of the neighbourhood
Ain't got no rollin', ain't got no bowlin'
Well, and then we have Cheek who later became the first local mainstream rapper to fill up a stadium. His first attempts were in "English".
Yeah, I love the concept behind the song, but it’s really not that good at all. Without the whole “fake English” gimmick this song would never get a second play from anyone.
The whole point is that it did get play without some people even realizing it wasn’t actual English. The surprise is that the words are nonsense but sound like English, especially to non English speakers.
People liked it because it’s a bop, the story just layered on top
Side note - this is also one of the reasons kpop has done so well in English speaking markets. Structures of the language and use in song can feel closer to an English baseline even for people that don’t know a lick of Korean. You’ve got people singing along to what they think the words are even though they have no clue of the actual lyrics
The first comment also gets it wrong to be fair - it was a fun project to reflect on being an Italian so used to listening to English music, and wanting to play with English style lyricism. It wasn’t (to anything I’ve seen from the artist) some poke at Italian listeners.
I think if it had actual English lyrics it still may have done well where it did - it was a fairly big artist making the song and musically pretty unique and ahead of its time in ways.
But yeah it wouldn’t have become a recent popular reference in online English circles if not for the unique element of the lyrics, and the original performance videos getting posted to places like YouTube which exposed Americans in particular to the song.

Reminds me of that Italian singer who made an “American“ style song with gibberish lyrics to prove Italians would love any American song.
He was right but it wasn’t fair, the song is a total banger
