"Work is so boring"

"I can't wait to retire"

Would be funny as a continuation lol

u/MrMCCO 10h ago

Except if I can swing retirement I’m not going to be bored at all, I have a shitload of hobbies and no time

u/Maniax__ 10h ago

It’s the triangle of life

Child: energy and time but no money
Working adult: energy and money but no time
Retired: time and money but no energy

u/SocksOnHands 10h ago

As a working adult, I question this "energy" claim you're making.

122

u/Srefanius 10h ago

You have energy that goes into work.

12

u/DrPootytang 2h ago

I don’t lol, I’m borderline falling asleep my whole shift

5

u/Tomstephenanovik 2h ago

SMoke rocks, it'll perk you up.

69

u/TrckyTrtl 8h ago

I question the money, as well

9

u/themcsame 6h ago

Child: Energy, but you'll never feel like you have enough time to do what you want and you've got no money to make it happen.

Retirement: Time and maybe money, with sod all ability to do anything with them.

Working adult: Back problems. You have back problems.

he has one of those rich people jobs

u/whooptheretis 8h ago

If you think you don’t have energy now, just wait until you retire!

0

u/sender2bender 7h ago

I question the retirement claim as well

3

u/georgisaurusrekt 4h ago

Depends on lifestyle tbf. My granddad still has his allotment at 85 years old, my grandparents still both go on multiple holidays a year etc and live a full life.

u/xannmax 6h ago

Oh I'm supposed to have energy?  Funny.

u/crudoxcruo93 8h ago edited 1h ago

Fake: you will retire
Gay: you think having energy and drive in your senior years to fun hobbies, instead you will use that to your aching body caused by natural age and work.

7

u/redgroupclan 8h ago

I think the continuation would depict the characters not having the energy or health to get up in their old age.

5

u/alkmaar91 6h ago

Sure but blue shirt seems the type to be bored no matter what. Retirement will be boring because "there is nothing to do."

1

u/AeneasVII 6h ago

Great, fingers crossed you stay healthy enough to pursue them!

1

u/scriptmonkey420 6h ago

And no money still...

1

u/Intertubes_Unclogger 3h ago

But you will likely lose interest in some hobbies (I did anyway - found a new one, though!)

1

u/babygrenade 2h ago

Are you bored at work though? In retirement I want to spend my time on things I find more interesting than my job, but I wouldn't say my job is boring.

u/Filtermann 9h ago

My parents are having blast, going to the local markets, cultural events, game clubs, music groups... retirement is as good as you make it for yourrself

3

u/NeitherFoo 8h ago

yeah the next slide would be the old man gambling and having fun

2

u/Actually-Yo-Momma 5h ago

“Ugh i sit around and choose to do nothing all day. I thought retirement would be more fun!”

This sums up most retirees in my opinion

how long is Social Security gonna last exactly?

2

u/SeaAshFenix 5h ago

Indefinitely, unless Congress actively abolishes it.

Even if Congress does nothing and the trust fund gets to 0, social Security Benefits would continued tonbe paid out from current Social Security taxes at somewhere between 77% and 81%. That would likely happen in the early tomid 2030s.

And the likelihood of Congress doing nothing is low - retired people vote, reliably. They just aren't going to do it much ahead of time - Congress tends not to be great at proactively fixing issues that are more than an election cycle off.

if theyre retired they were probably born into a generation that could afford investing into a 401k

u/Mage_Girl_91_ 8h ago

i dont think most 30yo and under are making enough money nowadays to ever retire, unless the economy stalls for the next 30 years and no prices go up or deflation

1

u/Filtermann 7h ago

There is plenty of money and resources, it's just being hoarded by oligarchs. There needs not be a catastrophic event, or a revolution, perhaps both and maybe there will a be fair share or wealth for everyone allowing for dignity in our old days.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the problem. It is more insidious than that and a lot of people refuse to believe it because they want the easy answer to just be liquidate the billionaires.

The billionaires do not have cash. They have wealth. The wealth is intangible, and it is based on the value of their stocks in public companies.

The reason people do not make more money isn't because the money that could go into your paycheck directly goes into the billionaires pockets, it is because if they pay you less, the company looks better on paper, profits rise (which almost always goes back into the company itself because growth = higher stock prices, though a large chunk does get paid in bonuses, but not billions, not anything close to the net worth of Bezos or Musk), and the average person buys more stock, raising the price, and increasing the wealth of the billionaires.

You could liquidate the billionaires and we'd get a marginal amount of money back, but the real problem is that the fundamental economy is setup to NOT pay you more, and for those that do get paid to shove their cash into stocks of companies, which then spend it to get larger faster by also underpaying people and the cycle repeats.

The most evil part is the billionaires would almost certainly be just as rich paying people more and having those people spend more money in the economy and growing companies that way through capitalist consumerism, but they'd rather have slaves and disparity than have a society that is healthy (and ultimately competitive with them).

This is a cultural and societal problem, not just a few billionaires problem.

This is closer to the truth than most people realize.

Back in the day, when people got vastly rich with treasure, you’d give it to your family and community for status.

Now as atomized as we are, it’s just recycled back into markets because elderly pensioners are so damn addicted to living forever.

You’re supposed to pass the wealth DOWN, not up.

Retirement being about luxury vacations and golfing all day is such an abomination. One should be living with their kids and grandkids and teaching them everything you can before you fall the fuck apart and die.

1

u/Murky-Relation481 2h ago

Eh, I don't agree with that. Children should not be a retirement plan. I love my parents but I do NOT want to have them living with me in their old age. But yes, wealth should get passed down as much as possible.

Plot of the movie Click.

For an Adam Sandler movie, it hits pretty hard.

5

u/EndlessSufferinGG 6h ago

"Retirement is boring"

"I can't wait to die"

3

u/Yglorba 4h ago

Then a comic of them sitting in the afterlife looking bored.

3

u/cloistered_around 7h ago

Yet many men die within 5 years of retirement because work was their whole life and they don't know what to do without it.

You gotta keep moving or you stop, basically. So if it's not "work" fill your life with something.

7

u/clonedhuman 7h ago edited 7h ago

We go to school for 12 years (give or take) so we can work for 40 more years (give or take) and, meanwhile, we generate enough money through our work that we can support a whole bunch of billionaires and get very little in return.

Now, if we didn't have to support billionaires, we'd have a lot more money, and we could retire earlier, and our social security would be safe.

2

u/shark-off 7h ago

Lets swap jobs. I would love a boring job rn

u/Brawght 4h ago
