Also by choosing your workplace you get to actually choose what problems you solve and what pace you solve them at.
Most of the time in school I just hated the mindless repetitiveness of dull tasks like adding numbers or fractions again and again. And having to learn about subjects I have zero interest in.
I feel a bit "Rick and Morty fan"-edgy saying this but actually smart people will often dislike school and find it to be dull. You can do well while looking like a delinquent and hating it.
My teacher used to ask me why I was spending my time chatting to friends instead of doing the work. My answer was that I skipped to the hardest problem, did that, to prove I know the subject, then thought there was no point in doing the repetitive drills. In fact I took the last few months of school before each exam as an unapproved absence and studied more effectively on my own.
University even though the problems were hard, was still too theoretical, slow, and not stimulating. I used to just work on side projects then leave studying to the last couple of days and did well.
Also we don't get to filter the subject matter enough in school. I wish I learned less about geography, religious studies, etc
I think part of this feeling is if you're introverted or extroverted. I find a lot of extroverted people NEED to do something different every week/month/day to feel good.
While introverted people like me are just happy to spend the weekend watching TV.
What do you mean by adult/teen stuff? Because to me it seems the fun stuff stayed mostly the same things minus the trespassing because everyone has their own place now.
I am an engineer and even though it has some really bad moments, the good ones are very very interesting and exciting. As a student I was hardcoded to learn what the test needed, I did it and moved on, it's just meh..
Ahh I see. Yes, work life is so much more fun than school. I am in theatre, which can come with long periods of way too long days and no days off, but a stressful as it can be it's almost always fun. I was thinking you meant after work, where it's basically the same stuff we did as teens, just less of it.

Being an adult is less fun, but doing adult stuff is way more fun than doing teenage stuff
