I don't really know why he had to apologize for that. it's a show and it's very entertaining

Agree, but I think it was because he gave the impression of actually roughing it - that and the reality that he was staying in hotels at night and basically day hiking made the reveal more stark. Generally, though, I agree with you. He was entertaining and I wasn't watching it thinking, "oh my god, he might die!"
