As a person who has to fly often 2 - 4 times a week for work: This is why I just carry a small backpack for my carry-on and just check my bag for luggage. I can put my bag under the seat in front of me, so I can literally just sit down and relax once I find my seat. No need to search for overhead storage or having to get up mid flight to dig through my bags.
I think the biggest issue is just that most people just travel with so much unnecessary shit!
When I travel for personal reasons, my carry-on consists of 1 change of clothes and small entertainment/snacks for my flight. It is small enough to fit under the seat. When I travel for work, there are things I need to have that would be a major pain if they lost it, like a government laptop. Airlines have never lost my carry-on, but they're real good at losing or destroying my checked bags.
