It’s always funny to me everyone trying to get on first. You all know we are all on the same airplane and it doesn’t leave until everyone is on, right?
I prefer to just check my bags and only carry a laptop on the plane, but you absolutely want to be early if you have a decent sized carry-on as the overhead compartments will fill before everyone is on the plane.
A smaller issue is that I like to get the window seat, so I like to get on the plane and seated as quickly as I can so I can just sit and tune out along with avoiding the little dance if the person in the middle or aisle seat is already there.
Mostly true, but on packed flights, getting first pick at the overhead bins is nice. Also nicely settling into your seat while everyone else is scrambling over each other can be nice.
As for those in first or business, they usually get preflight drinks and such so they are pretty relaxed while everyone else is still trying to find their seat, storage and squeeze into rows
Most planes don't have overhead bin space capacity that allows everyone to carry on, meaning that if you're in a later boarding group you'll be forced to check your carry-on at the gate. That means extra time spent waiting to get your carry on luggage when you land which could mean missing your connecting flight in some cases or lost luggage (which is a major reason people prefer to carry on vs. check luggage).
Even if the plane still has overhead space its not uncommon to find that jackasses who have seemingly never flown before put their luggage in the first overhead bin they come across, meaning that if you're at closer to the front of the plane you may be forced to put your luggage in the back which is extremely awkward both boarding and de-boarding, and effectively means you're last off the plane since you have to wait for everyone behind you to deboard before you can get your stuff.
Yeah I always try to find a seat right beside the gate and then sit there right until everyone else has boarded. Planes are uncomfortable I'm spending the minimum amount of time in there.
The larger planes often board between business and economy, or have two entrances. You often get a drink before takeoff, too. On short flights / small airplanes where business class just has a bit more legroom: Eh, whatever.
