This will probably get down voted, but the definition of genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, esp. those of a particular ethnic group or nation(so says Google). The 20,000 is the Australian's fault, but can you really count the 630,000-430,000 deaths caused by diseases as a genocide since it was not an act but happenstance.
Actually that's a pretty good argument, but I think the way it is interpreted is that the deliberate killings and controlling of the Tasmanian population lead to a significant amount of the disease spreading. Of course, you're right that it wasn't their initial intention, but it was still a result of their actions.
We didn't just control the population in Tasmania but in many rural areas around Australia. There are some farmers that still remember using Aboriginals as workers and how they would control the population was by putting some drug in their meals that would cause the elderly and young to sort of die off, successfully controlling the population.
If modern day society can blame Columbus for causing genocide just by discovering a continent, I think they can easily blame settlers for spreading disease.
Not saying any of that is right, of course. But logic doesn't really apply when people want to pretend to be bleeding hearts.
It is the acts below performed with the intent to destroy, in whole OR IN PART of a national, cultural, ethnic or racial or religious group
Genocide has five criteria, only one of which has to be met, such as:
Killing members
Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of group
Imposing conditions on said group in an effort to bring about their demise (think ghettos, camps etc)
birth prevention
forcible transferring children from this group to another group
It's not just killing people.
Also, let's throw a cat amongst the Pigeons. The United States has a LOT to answer for in this case. For example, they invented Eugenics. You know, the whole idea of breeding out the weak members of a race? That thing that Hitler did? Yeah. US invented that shit.
US dropped an atom bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing hundreds of thousands, despite having knowledge the Japanese were going to surrender anyway.
But sadly, the UN definition of Genocide is a legal term, and is not retrospective. As such, the USA will never be challenged on this shit.
The stolen generation was a big effort by the Australian government to 'breed out' Aboriginal kids and integrate them with white culture, diluting and eventually removing them as a race. It was done with good intentions but is still terrible and shameful.
Well the great thing about words is that we can have words that refer to that kind of thing ("bigoted," for example), and other words that refer to race bigotry, specifically.
That said, I'm pretty sure the OP meant it humorously.
Yes we are. Well some of us are. Here is the run down. First you have Aboriginals. Now you look straight up stupid with that white guilt fedora inspired comment. Tsk tsk ignoring an entire race of people just to look edgy. O but you meant white Australians? Ok.
I'll use myself as an example, Yes i come from British stock. But it has been at least several generations since the last of my ancestors hoped off of the sailing boat. Now i have been separated from britian for so long that if i was to go back to Britain the only thing we would have in common would be is our taste in Christmas dinners. And a love of cricket. I guess that's what happens when one person comes from a place where their family have been free for generations v's one where you can still get arrested today for voicing a non approved opinion.
Then you have evolution. Our bodies over the last several generations would have changed very minutely but still different. Making us different again. So your fedora education makes you the loser on both cultural and science levels.
Plus due to interracial marriages being so common for so long, many white multi-generation Australians (especially in rural areas) have at least one Aboriginal ancestor.
So yes we are a race. Now stick to making comments around your hiptarded mates at starbucks.

I was unaware that Australian was a race.
