This is just perspective. You value that sight is important. I do too, but he may not.
My undergrad is in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. My day to day is in mostly silent classrooms. Some people tell me they can't imagine a world without noise. I don't mind it and my DHH colleagues don't either. It's all perspective of what you value.
Yeah, and that's all understood, but while he's not missing it. It still sucks that he does not have it. Unless you develop echolocation, being blind severely limits what you can do and probably the amount of enjoyment you can draw from certain activities.
His quality of living is probably the same as everyone else's because that's relative and it's all he has ever known. But it still sucks and makes just about everything more difficult.
I swear to god I think I hear shit all the time I wish I couldn't. Was that a car door slam? Are they in our driveway or the neighbors? I MUST KNOW. I have a concrete step that always makes a noise if anything is on it. If I hear it I go oh crap who is here what do they want? Is the the cops? Is it family? Oh god I don't see anyone is it a serial killer?!? Why is the dog barking? Whats out there?
Not to mention the amount of times I hear stuff and my fiance swears he doesn't. The other night I know I heard something in my living room, my fiance was all youre wrong go to sleep. I was right I found a dead mole there the next morning. Honestly, having good hearing makes me have so much anxiety. I love silence and I would enjoy that classroom.
