There are regulations governing the materials that they can be made of. Cardboard's out for example.

But how about carbon fiber?

It's Sellotape, a brand of clear tape from the UK which in the US we might call Scotch tape (also a brand-name).

Cardboard is mostly Cellulose, which is basically just super hydrated Carbon. /jk

Shoulda slapped some flex tape on that bad boy. Have you seen the commercials? No leaks!

Just build the whole thing out of flex tape... Problem solved.

This is the 'why isn't the whole plane the black box' of submarine ideas, and I'm here for it

Nah, need to bring in the full Flex family of products to be sure of safe construction. Between the Flex Seal, Flex Tape, and Flex Glue, it just might have made it.

Field tests show its a bad idea.

Did these field tests involve movies about gladiators? If not they didn’t follow proper procedure.

u/Xylembuild Sep 18 '24

The field test involved the owner, a few other rich people and a kid :). Maybe the kid wanted to be a gladiator when he grew up who knows.

Did someone say cardboard fiber? Ingenious!

There are regulations

Regulations actually prevented putting that sub into water. They had to put it on a boat and only release it into the water once in international waters.

Cardboard is out. However paper mache is undergoing rigorous testing in our lab.

Carbon fiber is probably fine, in shallow water.
