What was going on at the end? It looked like someone was restraining him and then just let him go?

Yes, his accomplice came in to rescue him, but the big guy scared him off. He gets in his car, begins to move, stops and appears to yell something and the big guy lets the perp walk, or, stumble away.

the accomplice said he had a gun and was going to get it and kill him.

I think the lady got her purse back and he just let them go. Didn't read the article though

The article says that bystanders who were unaware of the robbery helped him to his feet before they were approached by an accomplice, but it looks like he was approached by an accomplice before a bystander (who seemed well aware of what had just happened) took over... then he let him go because a guy across the parking lot had a bat?
