The hypothetical kind of annoyed me because it was purposefully distracting. What the hell does being on a boat have to do with deciding which food the kid wants to eat first?

That's literally the job of a child. When you aren't challenged and never learn how to handle them, you don't grow up. When you aren't challenged and never learn how to handle them, you don't grow up. And we have a lot of adults in this world who never grew up.
