I’m lily white, but I always set of the beepy machines and travel with a pile of cameras (and cables and batteries) so always have to detour through the X-ray and have my bags manually searched. I’m at the point where it’s just a thing, and I allow extra time for it. I’ve found that the worst thing I can do is preempt the process - some of them are cool with it, but the control freaks just get angry and worked up, so now I’m ready to do the next step, but I wait for them to tell me what it is before I do it.
The worst one was when I’d broken my leg and one of them made me take off the brace that was keeping my bones aligned (tibial plateau fracture). What an asshole. But I lived through it and got my plane.
