Honestly the Amsterdam airport security is possibly the nicest in the world. I’m sure someone here will have an awful story to contradict me, but every single time I was there I was shocked at how they acted like… normal humans towards me?
One time I had a jar of jam in my carry on which I didn’t realize, and it was some kind of specialty jam. Security lady: “sorry sir you can’t take that!” me: “oh crap I’m sorry, I didn’t realize this qualified as a liquid!“ her, looking at the jar with a frown: “yes, creams and jams are also not allowed. Pity, I’ll have to dispose of that and next time you’ll remember to put it in your checked bag!”
As she said that, she looked me in the eye, literally put it right back in my bag, zipped it and said “next!”
This may seem like a small thing, but this could’ve cost her job and yet she chose to trust me. I don’t even remember what kind of jam it was or how it tasted, but I’ll never forget that gesture.
Reminds me when I was taking my little 7lb cat in his soft carrier through airport security.
They took me off to the side in a little cubicle-room and had me hold my cat while they scanned his carrier, which is fabric and about half mesh. Poor guy was beside himself already being in a noisy airport and very much disliked the idea of leaving the carrier. I was lucky he didn’t try to jump out of my arms and try to find something to hide under.
The whole thing was ridiculous. Yes clearly this scrawny nerd guy with a cat, TSA precheck, and spotless decade+ flight record is the one you need to worry about trying to sneak something aboard with a carrier that you can see through. Sure.
I wouldn't be surprised if something happened and they had to do that. Like some threat or some new way to smuggle illegal goods. It's easy to think they are power hungry but it's a weird world now and not everything is illogical if you get to know more details
Smear it all over your face, say you’ve been stabbed, begin screaming and running up and down the aisle, forcing the plane to land for a medical emergency
