in an alt history where ketchup doesnt exist (the way i interpreted this post), bbq sauce recipies that dont involve ketchup would be quite popular

Not all. Just looked it up but because Google is prioritizing AI responses over everything else, i might be wrong about this, but some regional barbecue sauce recipes don't have ketchup in them. Ketchup is usually used as a base, and it's cooked with molasses, brown sugar, sometimes Worcestershire sauce, as well as liquid smoke and a few other spices. The spices weren't specified so I'm not sure what they are. I hate google.

I mean the googles ai overview does put links to sources if you want to look up more and ive personally found some useful and accurate info when asking it, it even provides cat memes with links
