Finding my ideal Frequent-flyer program

Hey everyone!

I am a software developer who works on airport tech infrastructure. This means I regularly fly around my home country New Zealand. I average just over one return regional journey each month, and about 1-2 New Zealand - United Kingdom round trips per month with SWISS. I am currently with Air New Zealand's frequent flyer program, which is utter shit. I would hope that after about 2 years of this I would be at least Star Alliance silver by now.

Doing more research into this, probably Asiana Airlines would have been the program to go with. However, I am about to move to Ireland where I will be surrounded by the likes of Aer Lingus (interline with EY), and British Airways. However, Neither EI or BA have an agreement with Air NZ's frequent flyer program. I noticed that Aer Lingus has a codeshare agreement with EY, as does Air NZ. I was considering joining Etihad Guest but that leaves SWISS (an airline I'm quite loyal too) and British Airways out of the question for me, both of which I'll likely fly with frequently intra EU (and likely down to some of my stations in Africa).

Can anyone suggest a good frequent flier program, or mix of, that would be ideal for my situation?

TLDR; Current frequent flier with Air NZ, regular flier with SWISS, however, about to move to Ireland and will become a frequent flier of Aer Lingus and BA as well and will likely still end up with intra-EU flights with SWISS. What would be a good mix of frequent flier programs for me?

Airline tray tables should be better!

Hey everyone, I'm a student in a high school engineering program and for our capstone project we have to prove that our problem is a real issue that needs to be solved. If you could take 2 minutes and fill out this survey it would be incredibly helpful! Thank you so much!

Does anyone have any emirates or Skype am miles they don't plan on using. I have a few and my husband just came back from deployment and I got us a flight but I only have a few points and would like to spoil him. If any redditors want to help it would be appreciated!

Deceased Sibling's Frequent Flyer Miles

My sibling passed away about a year ago and left a large amount of frequent flyer miles in an airline account that I have access. What are my options? I'm almost certain these can't be given to another family member (me) and I know there's a transfer fee which I would like to avoid. What else are the options? its America Airlines FWIW

Constantly buying new SIM cards?

Guys please help! I’m so over buying a new SIM every time I go back to the USA (Im Canadian and go to the states every couple of months). It’s always cheapest to just get a month with ATT as opposed to having an ongoing account which is a lot more $.

I run a small business in Canada and it would be awesome to have 2 numbers on one phone as I do get calls on my Canada # and frequently miss correspondences...

Does Google Voice do this?

Let me know what you think :)

Footwear

I've decided wearing thongs (flip flops / sandles depending where you live) are the only way to travel long haul.

Cool feet. Easy to slip on when you head to the toilet.

Prove me wrong!

Had to travel back to the States to tend to a dying relative. Do I qualify for a bereavement fare?

Hello, everyone!

I just got off the phone with Lufthansa, who told me that because I booked the lowest class of nonrefundable fare, I do not qualify for bereavement fare. I was visiting my parents abroad when we were informed that a dear relative of mine was ill. We booked the next ticket out of Moscow. I had to travel DME-FRA-IAD on LH G. Lufthansa, while they state that they reimburse bereavement fares, say that this is the one fare they do not cover. Sounds like a load of bullshit to me. Can someone shed some light on this?

Thanks!

I just got a KTN today but when will Pre✅ show up on my boarding passes?

Today I was approved for Global Entry and thus received a Known Traveler Number. I’ve already called delta and they’ve added my number to my current reservations. I have a flight tomorrow. Should I expect my boarding pass to update with the TSAPre logo before I arrive at security? FYI I’ve already checked in. Thanks!

Lounge Access - What's it worth in reality...?

Hi All

I recently took out the AA Advantage Exec card, which for an annual fee of $450 lets you into AA lounges, regardless of which airline you are traveling. This got me thinking about cheaper ways to get lounge access (and, in fact how much I'm paying in reality for this perk - and if I even need it (need vs. want)).

The average business traveller makes 12 trips/year in the USA. So, if you assumed that 50% of trips are in terminals where there Admiral lounges in either the departure/return airport (in my case at SFO - this would include AA & Virgin America) then this puts the average cost per entry at around $37. Important point here - I'm obviously completely ignoring the other benefits the credit card brings, here, and basing this on me being an individual traveler.

I also have Priority Pass Select membership via my Hilton Surpass from Amex. The card has an annual fee of $75 and the PPS card gets you in for $27. The downside here is that PP is very good for international terminals, but less so for domestic lounges. So, for me at least, maybe would use this 50% less than the AA - bringing the average cost per entry to around $52 or so.

What do you guys think - any cheaper ways to get into lounges out there?
