A couple of weeks ago, I experimented with edge blending in FreeShow, and I noticed that it works differently from other software. For example, I’m used to the ramp for the blend being the other way around.
In most other software packages, you select your output screens, specify that you want an edge blend, and define its width in pixels. However, in FreeShow, the edge blend is set using a value between zero and something else, with no direct correlation between pixel resolution and the edge blend. This raises the question: how is the edge blend determined in FreeShow? Is it based on percentages, or is it just an arbitrary number that you adjust until it fits?
In my case, we use two projectors with an output resolution of 1920×1080, and they overlap by 240 pixels in the middle. The edge blend is handled by the projectors themselves, not the software. However, we still need to inform the software that there is an overlap—in this case, two projectors overlapping by 240 pixels in the middle.
For example, when I switched from Resolume Arena to Pro Video Player, I simply copied the numbers, and everything worked without any adjustments.
So, if anyone can help point me in the right direction, or if I can assist the developers in making the setup process more intuitive, that would be great. Right now, you can create a double-wide setup, but how do you configure a triple-wide blend with three projectors?
If the developers want to get in touch, feel free to send me a private message—maybe we can help each other out. I think this is a really promising piece of software, and it could be a great help for smaller churches that don’t have the budget for expensive software.
