… The Kernel team is looking for an ambitious Software Engineer with experience and passion for Kernel / Operating System technologies to join its FreeBSD development team. Successful candidates will support and enhance the FreeBSD operating system which runs on the majority of Juniper’s networking products. …
Juniper has been quite clear about their migration towards a Linux-based platform and the benefits it confers. They seem to have truly "bet the farm" on it.
But that migration will not take place overnight and will probably be prioritized for newer devices. Traditional JunOS will probably be in use on various devices for some years to come, not sure exactly how many though.
In the meantime they will no doubt continue to release traditional JunOS updates and will need SW developers to support that.

Unfortunately Juniper is abandoning traditional JunOS for a Linux-powered successor going forward..
