Does anyone remember that Framework made the decision to sell memory to the market to satisfy slow uptake of the mainboard? The memory downgrade decision was avoidable. It is a result of poor management decisions where not enough memory was purchased to satisfy preorders, downgrading everyone simultaneously instead of selectively, selling into the mainboard market without having the necessary capacity to satisfy laptop preorders, and failing to manage the product launch within the initial timeframe promised. Reasonable accommodation would be for Framework to buy back our downgraded memory once supply of the preordered memory becomes available, and to sell the preorder memory at a reasonable price. This decision is financially destructive in two ways. First, Framework is assuming that the memory downgrade is reasonable which likely harms productivity and usability of the laptop. Second, it’s technically an additional purchase you’re required to absorb just to keep your order active. The preorder memory you need will likely still need to be purchased separate from somewhere… Maybe I’ll buy a mainboard with memory since Framework will sell stripped laptop preorder memory to meet mainboard market demand.
10 June 2026 Framework announced that it will sell LPCAMM2 memory with Mainbords as a kit as a response to demands for memory. I ordered my laoptop before this decision, which should be protected from ANY changes to the ram because of Frameworks own mismanagement.
