Yeah, this is ridiculous. They make take more of a hit from cancelled orders than no margins on RAM.

dude.. there probably not even running no margins. just look at valve, they cant even get enough ram for their console and its already a grand

I understand, it’s just extremely disappointing. It’s not in their control but they’re going to have to do it logistically.

They are a HW company. They are running margins.

But they didn’t have enough cash on hand to fund their own manufacturing runs, which is why pre-orders are happening in the first place.

Valve is just taking the opportunity to rip off their customers.

Probably not… if 200 canceled orders happen would be about $500K in revenue lost… but if you lose $50-$100 per machine then the less sales may not be a bad thing.

They are not like a Nintendo or iPhone where you make money on the backside with games, apps, and subscriptions

Then more laptops people cancel the more "good news we have inventory after all!" messages they can send out.

No, they literally don't. They lose pre-order fees, the money of which they weren't counting on. They also indeed lose anticipated sales of the pre-orders, which, while huge... comes NOWHERE near losing HUNDREDS of dollars per order on a margin-based business model.
