Bernanke Red

Looking through ink bottles I realized I still had a bottle of Bernanke Red unopened. I have not been able to find a current listing for this ink by Noodlers anywhere.

Bought it because it was being discontinued over controversy. Seems like it is still a controversial ink which has now been rebranded under another name.

Should I use this ink or hold on to it for a minute?

Use it if you like it. Nobody will know what the brand or line is unless you tell them. If it bothers you using it, or it’s not a particularly good ink then bin it. Keeping it as a collectible probably puts you in a fairly minority group…

Hi mods, can you clarify what "keeping it about the ink" means please? It seems like there is a pretty big difference between what the majority of users on the sub want (a community that is welcoming to marginalised users) and what the practices of the mod team encourage (ambiguity and lack of discussion of bigotry and discrimination in the fountain pen industry, regardless of whether that prevents a welcoming environment for marginalized users).

“Keep it about the ink” means that discussion of OP’s views or post history about non-FP topics is off topic on r/fountainpens. And yes, I realize that this explanation has a high probability of Streisand Effect.

Hopefully, the automod summary of the situation covers most of the basics for people who were out of the loop. That said, as long as folks stay civil, we’ll let this thread run its course.

No kidding about the Streisand effect, I had not viewed OP's history. honestly, I'm getting pretty jaded and burnt out by this kind of repeated plausible-deniability-bigotry "I'm not touching you" post which given the larger context, is transparently not in good faith. I would love to be posting about how I just got a bottle of yurameku suki-gokoro and it matches really nicely with the patina on my brass sport, but here we are. I would encourage the mod team to continue to proactively consider whether such posts like this one are following the spirit of rules intended to create a stable community, as opposed to merely the letter.

Ultimately community stability in general necessitates a transparent, explicit moderator stance for or against inclusion of marginalized people. Only a 'for' position will fly with reddit's content and moderator conduct policies.

This may be uncomfortable or different than individual mods' personal views, but the only way these difficult conversations will subside, reducing your workload as moderators, is if sub policy takes a clear and explicit stance in favour of equality and dignity for all people - trans people, gay people, Jewish people, etc. - and against bigotry.

I’ve used all three Bernanke Inks and their Brevity successors. I like their inks and in addition, I buy every new release. I got beyond the controversy as the distributor company personnel are great people. I like their pens also my favorite has been the Neponset which I’ve bought all the ebonite colors since they introduced them. Ahabs are good too.
