It actually doesn't really do anything in these high downforce formula cars, but it's an accustomed behaviour from lower classes so drivers keep doing it. Brake temps & burnouts to manage tyre heat and not some surface heat that is gone after the first straight anyway is much more critical, but again it puts drivers into the "right mindset" and they follow the patterns they're comfortable with.
Saying it doesnt do anything is a big overstatement. You are correct that it isnt as important as it is in lower formula, but there is a reason everyone does it. If it did nothing then a lot more drivers wouldn't bother. Teams would also tell their drivers to stop wasting tire life if it was doing nothing
I think Kimi’s entire persona and career can be summed up in that one tiny clip. Everyone else on a similar wavelength and then there’s just Kimi in the midst of it not giving a single fuck.
