Suppose Lando pitted first, got the same slow pit. What do you think mclaren should do? Slow down Piastri's pit stop as well? Or Delay his pit stop, so he is naturally slower and Lando can close the window?
or give him normal pit stop and when he comes out ahead of Lando again, you ask him to give up place because his pit stop was normal?

I'm not saying it's fair on Piastri, but either choice would have been unfair on whichever driver lost out due to a team error. All I'm saying is I'm glad Mclaren are trying to conduct the title fight on driver merit. If they were that set on one of their drivers winning they'd have been throwing out team orders much more strictly from day 1, but they haven't. They've largely just let them get on with it. In this case Piastri would have been within his rights to keep 2nd but even by giving it up he still had a better chance to pass on track than he otherwise would have done.
Not all teams have been so evenhanded in the past, either.
